The Academic Union of Secondary School (ASUSS) and the Federal Mortgage Bank have struck partnership to construct over 300 and fifty housing models for secondary faculty academics in Taraba state.
The chairman of the Taraba state chapter of ASUSS, Comrade Tanko Danjum, disclosed this on Friday in Jalingo, assuring that the affiliation had acquired over 200 hectares of land from the state authorities for the challenge.
“Our decision to get into partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank to build three hundred and fifty houses for our secondary school teachers was because we want every teacher at the end of retirement to own a befitting house.
“Though, the Federal Mortgage Bank used to deduct money from secondary school teachers’ salary at the end of every month with the aim of allowing them access to loans.
“When we discovered that our teachers were not really accessing loans, we approached the Bank and requested them to give us details of the money they have taken from teachers or we would approach the court,” he stated.
He continued: “After our visit to the bank some weeks ago, we got a call from the head office of the Mortgage Bank in Abuja, requesting the union to acquire land so they can come and build houses for our teachers.”
