A significant missile and drone attack by Russia resulted in at least 10 fatalities and over 80 injuries across Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force reported the launch of 12 missiles and 121 drones, with defenses intercepting many, minimizing damage.

At least 10 people were killed and more than 80 others injured after Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone assault across Ukraine, authorities said on Saturday, in one of the latest waves of attacks targeting cities and civilian infrastructure.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired 12 missiles, including six ballistic missiles, along with 121 drones during the overnight bombardment. Ukrainian air defences intercepted two guided missiles and 111 drones, limiting further damage in several regions.

One of the dead was a 67-year-old man whose body was recovered from the rubble of his home in Sloviansk, in the eastern Donetsk region. Local officials said the city was struck by three FAB-250 guided aerial bombs, damaging at least 15 private homes and injuring three other people.

The attacks also hit Kyiv, where ballistic missiles wounded 11 people, including an 11-year-old child. Residential buildings, warehouses, government facilities, vehicles and other civilian infrastructure were damaged in multiple regions.

Emergency services released images showing destroyed passenger vehicles, damaged residential neighbourhoods and firefighters battling blazes caused by the strikes. Officials urged residents to remain in shelters amid fears of follow-up “double tap” attacks.

The latest assault comes as Ukraine continues to face shortages of air defence interceptors. During the NATO summit on July 8, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington would allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot interceptor missiles under licence, marking a significant shift in US policy. Previous US administrations had supplied Patriot missiles but did not permit local production.

Trump also said relations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had improved significantly despite their highly publicised Oval Office clash in early 2025.

Meanwhile, Zelensky is expected to join more than 25 world leaders in Paris for a Coalition of the Willing summit aimed at advancing ceasefire efforts and strengthening long-term security guarantees for Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and a US representative are also expected to attend the meeting.
