More than 200 people were displaced and several shops destroyed after a torrential rainfall that began Friday night and lasted until Saturday  in Dangamu village, Kusada local government area of Katsina state.

The incident came barely two weeks after a heavy downpour claimed two lives in the Janbango area of Katsina metropolis.

Blueprint gathered that the flooding left hundreds of residents homeless after floodwater submerged homes, shops and other valuables, with property worth millions of naira destroyed.

Katsina is among the states in Northern Nigeria that experience recurrent flooding during the rainy season, with lives, homes, farmlands and public infrastructure often destroyed despite interventions by the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (KSEMA) and other relevant stakeholders.
The 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction by the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency stated that 14 local government areas in Katsina state have been identified as high-risk flood zones due to the anticipated heavy rainfall this year.

Reacting to the incident, Governor Dikko Umar Radda, sympathised with the victims, describing the destruction of homes and property as a painful tragedy that has left many families in distress.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Katsina state, I sympathise with the victims of this disaster in Dangamu village. We will not leave you alone at this difficult time,” the governor said.
Radda directed relevant government agencies to immediately assess the extent of the damage and provide the government with a comprehensive report to facilitate prompt intervention.

He assured affected residents that the state government had already begun arrangements to provide emergency relief materials and other forms of assistance.
