PSC Dismisses Four Senior Police Officers, Demotes Ten Over Misconduct
The Police Service Commission, PSC, has dismissed four senior officers and sanctioned 31 others for disciplinary offences ranging from gross misconduct to unprofessional behaviour.
In a statement issued Tuesday by spokesperson Torty Njoku Kalu, the commission confirmed the decisions were reached during its plenary session in Abuja.
Beyond the dismissals, the PSC approved a wide range of disciplinary measures:
Demotions: Ten officers had their ranks reduced. Three Superintendents of Police were downgraded to Deputy Superintendents, two Deputy Superintendents to Assistant Superintendents, and five Assistant Superintendents to Inspectors.
Compulsory retirements: Two officers were retired in the public interest.Reprimands: Ten officers received severe reprimands, five received standard reprimands, while three were issued warning letters. One officer received a letter of advice.
Exonerations: Seven officers were cleared of all allegations.PSC Chairman Hashimu Salihu Argungu emphasized that the commission remains committed to enforcing discipline within the Nigeria Police Force.
He stressed that misconduct will continue to attract appropriate sanctions, with professionalism and accountability at the core of police oversight.
