The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which is leading the protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), has said that its talks with the Pakistan-backed administration have shown positive progress. However, the group clarified that no final agreement has been reached yet, and the protests will continue until a formal deal is signed.

Key Issues Still Unresolved

JAAC leader Umar Nazir Kashmiri said the committee wants a meaningful solution, not false promises. He said both sides have reached an understanding on issues related to people detained by Pakistani security forces and missing persons.

However, important issues remain unresolved, including the ban on JAAC and murder cases filed under Section 302, which have delayed the signing of a formal agreement.

Protesters Warn Pakistan

Umar Nazir Kashmiri warned the Pakistan-backed administration against trying to mislead the protesters during the negotiations. He said the committee would not accept any deception and warned that if the talks fail or the group is betrayed, JAAC will immediately launch a “Long March”.

He also said that although there has been verbal progress in the discussions, nothing has been put in writing yet, so the committee will remain cautious until an official agreement is signed.

Next 48 Hours Crucial for PoK Protests

JAAC said the next 24 to 48 hours will be important as talks continue over pending legal issues, including FIRs and other court cases.

Meanwhile, during a large sit-in protest in Rawalakot, the committee paid tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir and urged people to stay prepared, as legal hurdles continue to delay the final agreement between JAAC and the Pakistan-backed administration.
