‘Otu is Absentee Governor’ – PDP Guber Candidate, Arthur Jarvis

Arthur Jarvis Archibong, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, has renewed criticism of Governor Bassey Otu, describing him as an “absentee governor.”

Jarvis alleged that Otu spends fewer than ten days in the state each month, while spending more than twenty days outside, either abroad or in Abuja.

He first made the claim two weeks ago at a press conference, where he lamented that governance was being left in the hands of aides who, according to him, even order the arrest of social media critics.

The Commissioner for Information, Ekpenyong Cobham, dismissed the allegations, arguing that modern technology enables the governor to function effectively from anywhere in the world.

However, Jarvis doubled down in a recent interview, pointing to the governor’s absence during crises such as deadly landslides and the fire outbreak at the SPAR shopping mall.

He questioned the value of Otu’s frequent trips, which officials say are aimed at attracting investors.

“After so many MoUs, show me how many have translated into projects that ease the suffering of our people,” Jarvis said. “Where are the factories? Where are the jobs? You cannot be absent at home in the name of chasing investors abroad, while the house is on fire and there is no water to put it out.”
