Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has filed a ₦5 billion libel suit against the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Uche Aguoru, over alleged false and damaging publications.

The suit, marked HU/126/2026, was filed before the High Court of Abia State, Umuahia Judicial Division, with Governor Otti as the claimant and Aguoru as the defendant.

The case stems from a series of social media posts allegedly made by Aguoru concerning the governor.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Kenneth Ahia, is representing Governor Otti in the matter.

According to the court filings, Aguoru allegedly accused the governor of corruption, diversion of public funds, abuse of office, political inducement, interference in the affairs of another political party, and judicial intimidation.

Governor Otti insists the allegations are false, malicious and injurious to his reputation. He is asking the court to declare the publications unlawful, order Aguoru to retract the statements and publish an unreserved apology.

The governor is also seeking an order restraining the APC spokesman from making further similar publications, as well as ₦5 billion in damages and the cost of the suit.

When contacted, Aguoru confirmed that he had been served with the court papers.

He said his legal team had responded to the suit, describing it as an attempt by the governor to silence opposing voices ahead of the forthcoming elections.
