Osun poll offers blueprint for 2027 opposition strategy – G100

The G100 has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Governor of Osun state, describing the outcome as not only a victory for the incumbent but also a triumph for the people of the state.

In a statement issued Sunday in Abuja and signed by the former Director General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) Salihu Moh. Lukman on behalf of the group, the G100 commended the resilience and determination of Osun voters, noting that their courage played a decisive role in the electoral outcome.

The group also praised opposition leaders and candidates who stepped down or aligned their structures in support of Adeleke, describing their actions as a demonstration of political maturity and commitment to a broader democratic goal.

According to the statement, “there are moments when the greater democratic interest must come before the ambitions of any individual or political party,” adding that the collaboration among opposition figures in Osun was a significant factor in the governor’s victory.

The G100 emphasised that the significance of the election extends beyond Osun State, arguing that it provides a practical model for opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“For weeks, the G100 has argued that Nigeria’s opposition does not suffer from a shortage of popular support. Its greatest challenge is fragmentation. Osun has now demonstrated what becomes possible when opposition forces recognise a common objective and consolidate their strengths,” the statement read.

It further noted that the decision of some governorship candidates to step down in favour of Adeleke highlighted the importance of prioritising collective interest over individual ambition.

The group urged opposition leaders nationwide to reflect on the lessons from Osun, stressing that unity, compromise, and strategic cooperation would be critical if they hope to present a formidable challenge in 2027.

“Nigeria is bigger than any candidate, any ambition and any political party,” the statement added, calling on political actors to adopt a more collaborative approach in pursuit of national interest.

The G100 concluded that while Osun has shown the pathway, it is now up to the national opposition to replicate the same spirit of cooperation on a larger scale.
