Osun governor Adeleke, Accord adopt Tinubu as 2027 presidential candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the composition of its National Campaign Council and several sub-committees ahead of the Osun state governorship election, scheduled for August 15, 2026.

The party, in a statement Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the National Campaign Council will be chaired by Imo state Governor/Chairman Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Senator Hope Uzodimma.

Other top party leaders named as co-chairmen include Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.

The APC also appointed the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, as deputy chairman of the council, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin will serve as Secretary.

The notice announcing the appointments was signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.

According to the APC, the council comprises governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, as well as other key party stakeholders drawn from across the country.

The party said the council was constituted to coordinate its campaign activities and mobilise support ahead of the governorship poll.

To strengthen its campaign structure, the APC also set up specialised sub-committees responsible for election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots mobilisation, logistics, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women’s mobilisation, persons with disabilities mobilisation and secretariat functions.

The party announced that the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees will be inaugurated Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre in Abuja.

The inauguration is scheduled to begin at 12 noon.

The party said the move is part of preparations to secure victory in the forthcoming Osun governorship election.

Meanwhile, Osun state  Governor Ademola Adeleke and the national leadership of Accord Party have adopted President Bola Ahmed  Tinubu as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.

A statement by Adeleke re-election campaign spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the decision was arrived at a meeting Saturday night in Osogbo, the state capital.

The party’s leadership noted that it is important that the Tinubu-led government completes all the roads and infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, it has started.

On the August governorship election, the party warned against violence, intimidation, electoral manipulation and the use of security forces against the party.

Present at the meeting were the party’s National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem, Deputy National Chairman Maryam Sale, the National Secretary, Ajaja Abiola Adebukola, National Treasurer Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen, National Organising Secretary Ibe Thankgod, National Publicity Secretary Omorogbe Joseph, and all the state chairmen.
