Osun First Lady Leads Protest Against Arrests, Election Violence

Osun State First Lady, Titilola Adeleke, on Monday led a protest by women across the state, demanding an end to what they described as “indiscriminate arrests and violence” ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Joined by traders, artisans, and government officials including Commissioner for Women Affairs Ayobola Awolowo, the demonstrators marched from Osogbo-Ilobu Road to the Osun State Police Command.

They carried placards with messages such as “Election is not war” and “Police must be neutral.”Adeleke accused political actors of targeting opposition leaders and called on the police to question All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains over rising violence.

She cited recent incidents, including the arrest and alleged mistreatment of the Commissioner for Environment.

“We want peace; let there be peace. Invite APC chieftains for questioning. They should stop killing our husbands and children. Make them sign an undertaking,” Adeleke said while presenting a letter of demands to the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Etaifo.

Etaifo assured the protesters that their concerns would be addressed, stressing that the police were committed to ensuring a peaceful election.

He warned that any attempt to manipulate the poll would lead to arrests and prosecution in Abuja.

Commending the women for their peaceful demonstration, Etaifo urged them to disperse to avoid clashes, promising police escorts back to their starting point.
