Oriiré 44: Don’t lower your guard, Muslim men in business warn Nigerians

The Companion, an association of Muslim men in business and the professions, has urged Nigerians not to develop a false sense of security following the release of the abducted Oriiré 44, adding that the development should instead spur greater vigilance against insecurity.

In a statement issued Monday and signed by its National Amir, Imam Nojeem Jimoh, alongside the publicity secretary, Prof. Tunde Akanni, the association said the successful rescue of the victims should reinforce the need for stronger community participation in security efforts.

“While celebrating this development, The Companion strongly cautions Nigerians against lowering their guard. The release of the victims should not create a false sense of security. Rather, it should reinforce the need for greater vigilance, community cooperation and intelligence sharing,” the statement reads.

The group welcomed the release of the abducted victims, congratulating them, their families, the people and government of Oyo state, as well as all those who prayed and worked for their freedom.

It also commended the federal government and members of the various security and hybrid forces for what it described as their courage, professionalism and sacrifice in securing the victims’ release.

The association said governments at all levels must demonstrate greater accountability and transparency in the utilisation of resources allocated to security, adding that Nigerians expect tangible improvements in the country’s security architecture.
