One-Term Presidency: ‘Let Me Tell You, When People Talk About A Signed Agreement, I Laugh’ -Obi

Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate and governor of Anambra State, addressed questions about reports that he signed an agreement to serve only one four-year term if elected president.

Speaking in a video posted on Advocacy for Good Governance Obi dismissed the emphasis on a written agreement, arguing that a public commitment carries the same weight. He said he, his party, and other stakeholders had already agreed and documented that he would serve only one term of four years if elected.

According to him, “Let me tell you, when people talk about a signed agreement, I laugh. Your statement should be a signed agreement. I, the party, and everybody have agreed to document four years, not a day more, and that is not just on that but in other issues and in other areas.”

Obi maintained that his commitment to a single four-year term had been clearly stated and documented by the party. He added that the understanding extended beyond the presidency to other agreements reached within the party…....
