Police in Ondo State have arrested two males suspected of armed theft in separate operations in Akure, recovering two domestically made weapons, the state police command has mentioned.

The suspects, recognized as 32-year-old Oliver Bamidele and 35-year-old Levis Prince, had been arrested on October 13 and 19, respectively.

According to the police, Bamidele was arrested by operatives of the B Division Surveillance Patrol Team throughout a stop-and-search operation alongside Idanre Road in Akure on October 13.

A search reportedly led to the restoration of a cut-to-size domestically made gun allegedly hid on him.

“During preliminary questioning, he reportedly admitted ownership of the weapon.”

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, mentioned in an announcement issued on Tuesday that investigations had been ongoing to ascertain the supply of the firearm and its supposed use.

In a separate operation on October 19, cops patrolling the Madam Do Good space of Oyemekun Road in Akure intercepted two individuals using a blue TVS motorbike.

The officers reportedly recovered one other cut-to-size domestically made pistol throughout a search. One of the people fled, whereas Prince was arrested.

The police mentioned efforts had been ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect. They added that investigations would set up the origin of the firearm and whether or not the suspects had been linked to different legal actions.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, urged residents to help efforts to deal with armed theft and different violent crimes.

The command mentioned patrols, stop-and-search operations and intelligence-led policing would proceed throughout the state.
