The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun state election, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has pledged to give his deputy a meaningful role in his administration, declaring that she will not serve as a “spare tyre.”

Adebutu made the commitment on saturday during the birthday celebration of his running mate, Alhaja (Dr.) Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, held at her residence in Abule Ijebu, Alogi, Abeokuta.

The colourful event attracted members of the Ogun state PDP executive, the party’s elders council, stakeholders, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, members of the Egba Muslim Council, and other dignitaries.

Addressing guests, Adebutu assured Sowunmi-Kolapo that, if elected governor in 2027, she would play an active role in governance and decision-making.

He promised to formally transmit executive powers to her whenever he is away from the state, describing the pledge as his birthday gift to his deputy.

“My deputy will not be a spare tyre. Whenever I am away, I will transmit power to her because I believe in partnership and inclusive governance,” Adebutu said.

He stressed that his administration would be anchored on teamwork, mutual trust, and shared responsibility, adding that the office of the deputy governor would be fully engaged in the business of governance.

The declaration was greeted with applause from party faithful and guests, many of whom described it as a demonstration of confidence, inclusiveness, and a commitment to effective leadership ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun state.
