NSIB begins probe into Challenger 604 aircraft door separation

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has opened an investigation after a door separated from a Challenger 604 plane shortly after departure from Abuja.

The plane, registered T7-SEI and operated by Triton, was carrying six passengers and three crew members on a flight to Lagos. In an announcement signed by Director-General Captain Alex Badeh Jr, the bureau mentioned the plane departed Abuja at 16:12 UTC.

The crew declared a “mayday” emergency roughly three nautical miles into the flight, after climbing to three,500 ft above sea degree, when the door separated. The plane returned to Abuja and landed safely on Runway 22 at roughly 16:34 UTC.

The NSIB mentioned the door had been recovered and secured at its wreckage hangar. The bureau mentioned its investigation would set up the circumstances surrounding the incident, with additional updates to be supplied as work progresses.
