Nnamdi Kanu’s Wife Dismisses Divorce Rumours From IPOB Leader

Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reacted with disbelief to circulating reports claiming she has filed for divorce from her husband.  

 In a post on her verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, accompanied by a laughing emoji, Uchechi stated that she had just learned of the alleged divorce filing while her husband remains in prison.

“Good conscious evening, my blessed Biafrans. I have just learned that I filed for Divorce while my husband is in prison,” she wrote.

The reports had alleged that Uchechi filed for divorce after enduring years of alleged infidelity, financial neglect, and interference from Kanu’s family members, which reportedly strained the marriage beyond repair. She and Kanu tied the knot in 2009.

The claims also referenced Kanu’s past relationship with a woman identified as Chioma Amaryllis Ahaghotu, whom he allegedly met in 2014 before his 2015 arrest.

 Nnamdi Kanu is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre following his conviction on terrorism charges linked to his Biafra self-determination campaign.

Uchechi’s swift response appears to put an end to the swirling rumours, at least from her perspective.
