Nigeria at 66: Support group confident on Tinubu’s reforms
The National Movement for Tinubu–Shettima 2027 – Forward Nigeria, has said the economic and structural reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration were laying the foundation for Nigeria’s long-term recovery and growth.
A statement issued on Thursday in Abuja to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, Chairman of the coordinating committee, Prof. Rufa’i Ahmed Alkali, said the country remained resilient despite decades of economic, political and security challenges.
Alkali noted that the ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda were aimed at addressing structural constraints that had hindered economic growth for many years.
According to him, while the reforms have imposed hardships on many Nigerians, there are emerging signs of improved economic stability, increased investment and stronger fiscal resilience.
He stressed that the next challenge for government was to ensure that the benefits of the reforms translate into improved living conditions, job creation and broad-based prosperity for citizens.
The former minister said investments in infrastructure, agriculture, energy and transportation were helping to strengthen the foundations of a more productive economy, while initiatives in the oil and gas sector and compressed natural gas (CNG) programme could contribute to reducing energy costs and boosting industrial growth.
Alkali, however, emphasised the need for tangible outcomes, including improved electricity supply, affordable food prices and greater opportunities for businesses and young Nigerians.
He called for sustained investment in agriculture, describing food security as a critical national priority, and urged continued support for education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and youth empowerment.
The group also commended members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their efforts in combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality, while calling for enhanced intelligence gathering, technology deployment and improved welfare for security personnel.
As the country moves towards the 2027 general elections, Alkali appealed for peaceful and issue-based political Youengagement, urging political actors to avoid violence, ethnic division and religious intolerance.
He reiterated the group’s support for President Tinubu’s reform agenda, expressing confidence that stronger implementation and continuity would help consolidate the gains already recorded.
According to him, although significant challenges remain, Nigeria has every reason to remain hopeful about its future and national development.
