Six students of Kebbi state origin are undergoing practical training in Biomedical Engineering at the Centre Polytechnique de Mazayaki in Dosso, Niger Republic.

It’s a three-year training programme aimed at inculcating in them specialised technical skills.

The students are now receiving professional instruction on radiology equipment, gas plant systems, dialysis machines and biomedical engineering workshop practices at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital, UDUTH, Sokoto.

The training is designed to expose them to functions of medical equipment, how to operate and maintain the systems, as well as identify and address technical faults.

The head of Department of Biomedical Engineering (UDUTH), Abdulrahman Muhammad, says Kebbi students are receiving practical sessions under the programme lasting for a period between three and six months.

“An extension to longer-term training will be applied as they progress through the three-year course,” he stated.

The director-general of the Centre Polytechnique de Mazayaki, Dosso, Niger Republic, Adamu Amadu, added that, the programme would give the students practical knowledge to complement their academic studies, prepare them for future employment and professional responsibilities.

One of the students, Yusuf Aliyu, expressed delight that the practical exposure has afforded them better understanding of biomedical equipment, and the application of the knowledge acquired in hospitals and other healthcare facilities to help communities within and outside Kebbi state.
