The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s approval of four new Nigerian Army divisions, describing the move as a landmark boost to national security.

In a statement signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum noted that the simultaneous creation of four divisions represents the largest single expansion of the Nigerian Army in modern history.

“The bold step shows the President’s renewed commitment to the security of lives and property,” the governors said.

The NGF also welcomed the recruitment of 28,000 additional military personnel and the acquisition of new equipment, expressing confidence that the measures would strengthen counterterrorism and anti-banditry operations nationwide.

Under the new structure, divisional headquarters will be established in Makurdi, Ilorin, Jalingo, and Benin City, with implementation expected in two phases between September and December 2026.

The governors pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Government on security and urged citizens to support security agencies with credible information to improve safety across the country.
