NFF President Gusau, Other Board Members Resign
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau and several other members of the executive committee have resigned amid mounting pressure over the poor management of Nigerian football.
According to reports citing Vanguard, eight of the 13 board members have quit their positions following intense calls for them to step down.
The pressure intensified after the Super Falcons failed to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in the team’s history.
This came on the heels of the Super Eagles missing consecutive FIFA World Cups. The NFF leadership is also under investigation by security agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), over the management of funds released by the Federal Government for the national teams.
Authorities are examining the utilisation of a ₦17 billion intervention fund approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 to clear outstanding payments owed to players for wages and bonuses.
A source told Vanguard that the DSS is reviewing documents related to the funds provided to the NFF (often referred to as the Glass House), stressing that the probe is a standard process rather than an act of witch-hunting.
The Super Falcons’ exit from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 1-0 quarter-final loss to Cameroon ended their title defence and automatic World Cup qualification path, forcing them into a playoff route.
The resignations deepen the ongoing crisis at the NFF and raise questions about the next steps for Nigerian football administration.
