Navy Hands Over Two Rescued Human Trafficking Victims To NAPTIP

The Nigerian Navy has handed over two victims rescued from suspected human trafficking to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), reaffirming its commitment to tackling human trafficking and other transnational organised crimes.

The victims were transferred to NAPTIP’s Lagos Zonal Command in Ikeja for rehabilitation, protection and further investigation after they were rescued during a targeted anti-human trafficking operation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the handover was carried out by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry on July 19, following the victims’ rescue on July 17.

According to the Navy, the rescued individuals were processed in line with the Harmonised Standard Operating Procedures for handling trafficking victims before being handed over to NAPTIP.

The victims were first taken to the Western Naval Command Maritime Crime Investigation Desk, where they underwent documentation, biometric capture and other administrative procedures.

The Navy said the successful operation highlighted its determination to protect vulnerable persons while strengthening collaboration with relevant security and law enforcement agencies to dismantle human trafficking networks.

It added that intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency cooperation would continue to prevent human trafficking, disrupt criminal syndicates and ensure a safer maritime environment in support of Nigeria’s national security objectives.
