NAFDAC seize pretend alcoholic beverage packaging supplies value over N200m in Aba

NAFDAC officers on Wednesday, October 15, raided 5 retailers at Old Court Road Market, Aba, Abia State, suspected of manufacturing and supplying counterfeit packaging supplies for well-liked alcoholic drinks and different merchandise.

The operation uncovered counterfeit labels, corks, packs and outer packaging supplies bearing the names of a number of manufacturers, together with Jameson, Glenfiddich, Four Cousins, Lord’s Dry Gin, Imperial Blue, Goya Oil, Chelsea, Squadron and Seaman’s Aromatic Schnapps. NAFDAC says its Investigation & Enforcement operatives encountered threats and resistance from merchants in the course of the operation, making the evacuation of the seized supplies difficult.

“The owners of the five shops were absent, and the premises were placed on hold to prevent interference with the items remaining inside. NAFDAC issued an invitation to the Market Union Chairman, who pledged to ensure the security of the sealed premises and assist the Agency in identifying and presenting the shop owners.” the company stated
