My Past Comments Now Baseless, Not Lies – Bwala Clashes with Channels TV host

Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala on Wednesday defended his decision to join the Tinubu administration, insisting that his earlier criticisms of President Bola Tinubu were “not lies” but have since become “baseless” and no longer relevant to national discourse. 

Bwala made the remarks during a tense interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today with anchor Seun Okinbaloye.

The exchange grew heated as Okinbaloye repeatedly pressed Bwala on comments he made against Tinubu before aligning with the current government.

Frustrated by the line of questioning, Bwala argued that dwelling on his past statements was unproductive and distracted from pressing national issues such as the economy, education, and security.

“They are not lies. They are baseless. Not important for conversation,” Bwala stated firmly when asked if calling his previous remarks “baseless” implied they were untrue.

The spokesman accused the host of pushing an opposition narrative, noting that similar scrutiny was rarely applied to figures in the opposition.

He highlighted Peter Obi’s multiple party changes as an example of issues the media allegedly overlooks.

Bwala urged a shift in focus to the Tinubu administration’s achievements, particularly improved collaboration among security agencies, which he described as unprecedented in Nigeria’s history.

He also referenced a letter purportedly from U.S. President Donald Trump commending Tinubu on security matters.

“Nigerian people tonight want to know what is happening with their economy, with their education, and most importantly, with security,” he said, emphasizing substantial progress under President Tinubu’s leadership.
