Gbenga Kayode, veteran television director and creative producer, has confirmed that he had no clue what he wanted to do with his life as a child and went through phases of wanting to be an accountant like his dad, then a computer scientist, then a doctor until he saw blood. Speaking on CreativiTea with Lynda, he dismissed as fake, false and fabricated the notion that everyone knows their career path from a young age.

He used the opportunity to condemn what he called propaganda and false information being spread by people who pressure children into careers they are not suited for.

In Gbenga Kayode’s words: “I had no clue. I had zero clue. At some point I thought I was going to be like my dad. I was going to be an accountant. At some point I thought maybe I would do computers. Then I remember my mom coming home one day and saying she spoke to a prophet and I was going to become a doctor. So at that point I was like okay now that is it. We settled it. I’m going to be a doctor until the first time I saw blood and I was like ah this is not going to happen.”

He added: “But I’ve always loved television. I used to read a lot. So somewhere along the line I stumbled into an actress. It was actually my first girlfriend. I didn’t know she was an actress then. We just met and we became friends and we became close and I was a lover boy. I used to write. So I wrote her poems. I wrote her letters. I wrote her all sort of things…....
