MAPOLY Students Declare Sit-at-Home Over Fee Hike

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) has directed students to observe a peaceful sit-at-home protest today, Monday, in response to the recent increase in school fees.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by SUG President Afolabi Temitope, Acting Speaker Olorode Kehinde, General Secretary Ekundayo Gbenga, and Public Relations Officer Oloyede Ganiyu, the union said the decision followed failed negotiations with the institution’s management.

The union explained that despite several rounds of dialogue since the revised fees appeared on students’ portals, concerns remain unresolved.

“The prevailing economic realities make it increasingly difficult for many students and parents to bear additional financial burdens,” the statement read.

Students were instructed to stay away from lectures and academic activities, with the union stressing that the action is a peaceful demonstration, not an invitation to violence.

The SUG also appealed to shuttle operators, commercial drivers, and tricycle operators within the polytechnic community to suspend operations in solidarity with the protest.

While reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, the union emphasized that the sit-at-home is a collective expression of dissatisfaction and a call for reconsideration of the fee hike.
