Luxor West Bank Tomb Discovery: 3,000-Year-Old Tomb Uncovered Near Egypt

Archaeologists from Leiden University have discovered a 3,000-year-old tomb belonging to a man named Paser near Luxor, Egypt, featuring well-preserved inscriptions and architectural details from the Ramesside period.

Archaeologists have unearthed a tomb dating back roughly 3,000 years on the outskirts of Luxor in southern Egypt, marking the latest in a string of finds that officials hope will draw more visitors to the country. Egypt’s tourism and antiquities ministry confirmed the tomb belongs to a man named Paser and was discovered by a Dutch team from Leiden University working in the Sheikh Abd el-Qurna necropolis on Luxor’s West Bank. Researchers now plan to dig deeper into the site to identify everyone buried there and piece together more about their lives.

Based on the artistic style found in the tomb’s inscriptions, specialists believe it dates back to the Ramesside period, a stretch of ancient Egyptian history covering the 19th and 20th dynasties, as per a report from CBS News. The tomb sits just east of a burial site that was already known to researchers, and its overall design matches the standard layout seen in private Theban tombs built during the New Kingdom, a period running from 1570 to 1069 BC.

Luxor itself holds some of the most significant ancient sites anywhere in the world, and this particular find is part of a larger research project that has been running since 2018, according to the tourism and antiquities ministry.

This isn’t an isolated find. Just last year, near Luxor, a large tomb belonging to a pharaoh reopened to the public after undergoing more than two decades of restoration work.
