Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, working in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group, have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made cut-to-size Dane gun with three live cartridges during a routine crime prevention patrol in the Odogunyan area of Lagos state.

The arrest, which forms part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime across the state, followed the interception of the suspects while on patrol.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP, Abimbola Adebisi, on Tuesday, the suspects attempted to flee immediately they sighted the joint security team. However, the operatives swiftly pursued and apprehended them.

“A search of a handbag in their possession led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size Dane gun and three live cartridges.

“The suspects were identified as 32-year-old Arowolo Damilola and 29-year-old Adewale Adeyinka,”he said.

Abimbola disclosed that the suspects are currently in custody and are assisting investigators. They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the operatives and the local vigilante members for their vigilance and effective collaboration, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He warned criminals to desist from engaging in any unlawful activities, stressing that the Command would continue to intensify intelligence-led policing and proactive patrols to rid Lagos of criminal elements.

The Police Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities through the Command’s emergency response lines, assuring that all information received would be treated with utmost confidentiality.  The Lagos State Police Command reiterated that the sustained collaboration between security agencies and community-based vigilante groups remains a critical strategy in strengthening public safety and preventing crime across the state.
