A chilling warning has come from the palace in Egume. The Onu Egume/Okura District Head, HRH Ochimana Simon Anu, says youths in his domain are allegedly selling their kidneys to raise money for motorcycles and other luxury items.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the monarch raised the alarm on Monday at the Onu Egume Palace, describing the alleged practice as “dangerous and unacceptable.” His words sent ripples through the community and across Kogi State.

According to a statement signed by Momoh Idris Ospaca, Media Custodian of the Onu Egume Palace, the royal father said the trend reflects a growing desperation among young people to acquire wealth without hard work.

“He urged youths to reject the pursuit of quick wealth at the expense of their health and future,” the statement read, as elders and chiefs listened in solemn silence.

The most disturbing part of the allegation, the monarch said, is the involvement of alleged agents operating within Egume who facilitate the illegal organ trade. He warned them to leave the community immediately or face consequences.

“Anyone allegedly operating as agents for kidney buyers within his domain should leave the community or face consequences,” Anu declared, signaling zero tolerance for exploitation in his domain.

To get to the root of the matter, the Onu Egume has ordered the immediate establishment of a security committee. Its mandate: investigate reports of sudden wealth, especially among youths and underage persons.

The committee will specifically examine cases of young people who have recently acquired expensive TVS and Hajue Rubber motorcycles reportedly costing between ₦1 million and ₦2 million, and trace the source of the funds.

“The committee is expected to examine the sources of funds used by such individuals… and determine whether any criminal or exploitative activities are involved,” the palace statement noted.

The monarch expressed deep concern over what he called “the increasing desire among some youths to acquire material wealth without engaging in legitimate hard work.” For him, the motorcycle has become a symbol of both aspiration and danger.

He urged young people to embrace skill acquisition, lawful businesses, and long-term planning instead. “Health and human life must take priority over material possessions,” he stressed.

The royal father did not mince words on punishment. Anyone found culpable in the alleged kidney sales will face sanctions “in accordance with the traditional laws and customs of the community.”

He also called on parents, community leaders and residents to be vigilant. “Report suspicious activities that could endanger young people,” Anu appealed, placing responsibility on the entire community.

The Onu Egume warned youths not to be misled by the flashy lifestyles of peers. “Do not be carried away by the apparent wealth of others or the attraction of quick money,” he cautioned.

In a final directive, the traditional ruler reaffirmed his “strong condemnation of alleged kidney-selling activities in Egume” and ordered that “any such transactions should stop with immediate effect.”

As the security committee begins its work, Egume now faces a difficult question: how did the dream of owning a motorcycle become so desperate that some youths are allegedly willing to pay with a part of their body?
