Kash Patel Breaks Silence After Report Claims White House Pulled Him Back to DC Before Girlfriend's Concert
FBI Director Kash Patel reportedly canceled a trip to see his girlfriend in Chicago after his plane was already on the tarmac, when White House officials called him back to Washington for an unexplained meeting.
FBI Director Kash Patel had a trip to Chicago planned this weekend, one that a source cited in a MS Now report described as centered around his girlfriend’s country concert. But according to a report from The Independent, that trip got scrapped at the last possible moment, with Patel’s aircraft already sitting on the tarmac when White House officials told him to turn around and come to Washington instead.
The source cited in the MS Now report claimed that the Chicago trip had been billed internally as an official office visit, though the real purpose appeared to be attending a concert with his girlfriend. What isn’t clear is exactly why the White House called him back so abruptly. The Independent noted that Trump administration officials have reportedly grown uneasy about several of Patel’s recent moves, among them his decision to travel out of town while tensions over Iran were flaring up again and concerns about threats aimed at the president were circulating. Also in the mix was a tweet Patel posted Friday morning in which he claimed ownership of a “gold plated” jet ski.
Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, also weighed in publicly, denying that there was any tension over the jet ski post and rejecting the idea that Patel was facing internal pressure from the administration, calling such reports “completely false.”
A letter the two lawmakers sent on July 8 raised specific allegations, including claims that Patel had pushed for special treatment while traveling internationally. The letter also raised suspicions that an FBI attache position in Wellington, New Zealand, might have been created partly to justify a sightseeing visit there.
