Kano Hisbah Bans Film Distribution At Phone Charging Centres

The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the commercial distribution of films on mobile phones at phone charging centres across the state’s 44 local government areas.

The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr Mujahideen Aminuddeen, announced the directive on Thursday, saying it takes immediate effect.

He said the decision followed complaints from parents alleging that some operators of phone charging centres distribute uncensored films and explicit content to children.

According to him, the practice exposes minors to materials capable of undermining their moral upbringing.

Aminuddeen said many of the films being shared are neither approved by censors nor protected by copyright, while some operators also distribute content deemed inappropriate for children.

“Under the guise of sharing religious content, some phone charging centres end up distributing materials harmful to children’s moral development,” he said.

He noted that although films are classified according to age suitability, some operators ignore these classifications by making adult content available to minors.

The Hisbah official disclosed that enforcement teams had been deployed across all 44 local government areas to ensure compliance with the directive.

He warned that anyone found violating the ban would face prosecution.
