Kano anti-graft agency uncovers diversion of free mosquito nets

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) says it has uncovered the diversion and alleged sale of more than 1,000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets meant for free distribution to residents.

The Chairman of the commission, Saidu Yahaya, disclosed this in a statement issued by the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Isa Mansur-Bello, on Thursday.

Mr Yahaya said a store officer in Minjibir Local Government Area had been apprehended in connection with the alleged diversion and sale of the mosquito nets.

According to him, the nets were supplied by the Kano State Government, with support from development partners, for free distribution to residents as part of efforts to combat malaria in the state.

He described the alleged diversion and sale of the nets as an act of sabotage capable of undermining the government’s malaria control efforts.

He said the suspect had been arraigned before a court for prosecution.
