The executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje, Wednesday, said the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development (KIVTSD) would help Nigeria move from importing skilled workers to exporting skilled labour.

Bugaje stated this when the management of KIVTSD, led by its provost, Alhaji Husaini Haruna Muhammed, paid a courtesy visit to his office in Kaduna.

He described KIVTSD as a world-class vocational institution and commended Governor Uba Sani for establishing the institute. He said it had emerged as a major hub for skills development in the country.

“Kaduna state has set the pace. KIVTSD is a world-class vocational institute and today, it has become the hub of skills development in Nigeria,” Bugaje said.

He noted that Nigeria currently depended on skilled workers from countries like Benin, India, Indonesia and Togo, but added that the situation could change with increased investment in institutions such as KIVTSD.

“With institutions like KIVTSD, we will begin to export skilled labour instead of importing it. Governor Sani has laid a foundation that will create jobs, reduce poverty and empower thousands of youths,” he said.

Bugaje described the establishment of the institute as a bold step towards addressing unemployment and repositioning technical and vocational education, urging other state governments to emulate the initiative.

Earlier, the Provost said KIVTSD was established to bridge the gap between unemployment and opportunity by providing young Nigerians with practical, industry-relevant skills.
