Kaduna government condemns killing of 30 in Kauru, orders manhunt for attackers

The Kaduna state government has condemned the killing of about 30 persons in Naridon Village, Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, describing the attack as barbaric and directing security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible.

The attack, which occurred in the border community between Kaduna State and Ganawuri in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, reportedly claimed about 30 lives, left several others injured and led to the destruction of property.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the government received reports of the attack with deep sorrow and had ordered security agencies to intensify operations to track down the perpetrators.

“The Government strongly condemns the attack and has directed security agencies to intensify operations to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the statement said.

Governor Uba Sani, according to the statement, extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of those killed as well as the speedy recovery of the injured.

The governor also directed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) to provide immediate relief materials and humanitarian assistance to affected families.

“The Kaduna State Government reaffirms its commitment to working with the Plateau State Government, security agencies, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to strengthen security cooperation, restore lasting peace and protect lives and property along the Kaduna–Plateau border,” the statement added.

The government urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, while calling on them to support security agencies with credible information, reject violence and embrace dialogue.

The latest attack comes amid growing concern over recurring violence in Southern Kaduna. Earlier, residents told the BBC Hausa Service that about 30 people were killed after armed men reportedly invaded the community and attacked residents for several hours.

The casualty figures had yet to be independently verified as of the time the state government issued its statement.
