The Benin Journalists Forum, otherwise known as Otuedon’ogbenbe, has called for transparent, accountable and inclusive leadership from the newly elected chairmen across Edo South Senatorial District, urging them to prioritise grassroots development and deliver on the mandate entrusted to them by the electorate.

The forum made the call Friday while congratulating the chairmen-elect on their victory in the just concluded local government elections.

In a statement jointly signed by its Convener, Comrade Edosa Okunbor, and Secretary, Elder Patrick Ahanor, the group described their emergence as “a clear demonstration of the confidence reposed in them by the people” and urged them to justify the mandate through visionary, transparent and people-oriented leadership.

According to the statement, the chairmen-elect should place a premium on the provision of basic infrastructure, quality healthcare, education, environmental sanitation, youth and women empowerment, security, job creation and other initiatives capable of stimulating sustainable socio-economic development at the grassroots.

The group also advised the incoming council chairmen to operate an open-door policy, carry all stakeholders along irrespective of political affiliation, and ensure prudent management of public resources in the overall interest of their respective local government areas.

The Otuedon’ogben, however, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting developmental journalism in Edo South Senatorial District, fostering unity and the welfare of its members, as well as supporting leaders from the district whose policies and programmes are geared towards improving the well-being of the people.
