The 2026 president of Junior Chamber International Nigeria, Akinbode Abitogun, has urged northern governors to invest more in youth development and ensure free and fair elections ahead of the 2027 general election.
Abitogun made the call at the JCI Nigeria Northern Conference, themed: “Build Youth Vision and the New North,” held in Abuja, Saturday.
He said governments should support youth-focused organisations such as JCI that were committed to building the capacity of young people across the northern region.
“The major specific commitment is to support organisations like JCI, who are willing to continuously build young people in the northern region,” he said.
The JCI president also urged governments to ensure that young people were allowed to participate freely in the electoral process.
“My message to the governors or to the government is to keep everything free and fair. The young people are willing, everybody is willing to vote, and also to continue to sensitise people on why they need to vote,” he stated.
