INEC Rolls Out Eight-Step Online PVC Registration as CVR Deadline Extended

• Eligible Nigerians can now complete voter registration online, including biometric capture via smartphone.
• Commission extends Continuous Voter Registration deadline by two weeks to July 24, 2026.
• Portal also allows PVC replacement, transfer of polling units and correction of voter information.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled a self-service online portal that enables eligible Nigerians to register for a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) without visiting an INEC office, as part of efforts to simplify the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process.

The commission also extended the ongoing nationwide CVR exercise by two weeks, shifting the deadline from July 10 to July 24, 2026, following feedback from political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

The online platform allows first-time voters to complete their registration using a smartphone, including biometric capture, while existing voters can update their records, transfer their polling units or apply for replacement of lost or damaged PVCs.

How to Register Online

According to INEC, applicants can complete their registration through the following steps:

1. Visit the INEC Self-Service Portal
   Access the official CVR portal and select the “Register Online” option to begin the process.
2. Create an Account
   New users are required to provide their first name, surname, phone number, email address and password before completing the security verification.
3. Verify Your National Identification Number (NIN)
   Applicants must validate their NIN to confirm their identity and prevent multiple registrations.
4. Complete Personal Information
   Provide accurate details, including full name, date of birth, gender, occupation, nationality, residential address, state and local government area of residence, educational qualification and disability status, where applicable.
5. Select a Polling Unit
   Applicants are expected to choose their preferred state, local government area, ward and polling unit where they intend to vote during elections.
6. Upload Supporting Documents
   Where required, supporting documents should be uploaded through the portal before proceeding.
7. Capture Biometrics
   Using the official INEC mobile application, applicants can capture their passport photograph and fingerprints after scanning the QR code generated by the portal.
8. Review and Submit
   Applicants should carefully review all submitted information before completing the registration. The portal also allows users to track the status of their applications.

Additional Services

Beyond new voter registration, the platform also provides services for:

• Transfer to another polling unit.
• Correction or update of personal information.
• Replacement of lost, stolen or damaged PVCs.
• Tracking of submitted applications.
• Locating the designated INEC office for PVC collection.

INEC said applicants without smartphones capable of biometric capture or those yet to obtain a National Identification Number can still use the Pre-Registration option.

The process requires applicants to complete an online pre-registration form, book an appointment at an INEC registration centre, print their application slip and visit the selected centre for biometric capture before collecting their PVC when notified.

The commission noted that the pre-registration option significantly reduces waiting time at registration centres because most of the registration process is completed online before the physical biometric exercise.

INEC urged all eligible Nigerians who have yet to register to take advantage of the online platform before the July 24, 2026 deadline to participate in future elections.
