In My Father’s Religion, We Don’t Convert People. If You Like What We Are Doing, You Can Join -Ugezu
A video shared by Kaa Truth, features veteran Nollywood actor Ugezu J. Ugezu arguing that authentic spirituality does not involve forcing people to leave their own religions. He pointed to his father’s belief system as an example, noting that it never pressured anyone to convert.
During a recent interview, Ugezu explained, “If you appreciate what we practice, you are welcome to join freely. We embrace you without conditions.” He criticized numerous religious practices in Nigeria for being superficial, claiming they have failed to reduce corruption because they encourage selfishness and division instead of mutual understanding.
Ugezu, raised Catholic but now practicing African traditional religion, condemned religious groups that seek to dismantle other faiths. He asserted that God has chosen to reveal Himself differently across cultures, and no individual has the authority to disrespect another person’s religious beliefs.
“Anything that creates a separation between you and God does not come from God,” he remarked. He emphasized that success requires hard work and proper skill development, not just good intentions or prayer. He also identified Nigeria’s excessive concentration of power and weak governance as the country’s core challenges.
