IGP DIsu hails retired police officers, assures of continuous support

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has assured 24 retired police officers of the Nigeria Police Force of the continued support and commitment of the Force, stressing that their years of service and sacrifices would never be forgotten.

Disu gave the assurance as the Lagos state Police command on Thursday honoured 24 officers who retired from active service after 35 years of dedicated service to the nation.

The retirees were celebrated at a retirement reception organised by the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
The IGP congratulated the retired officers and assured them that retirement would not sever their relationship with the Force.

He said the retirees remained part of the police family, adding that their experience, knowledge and contributions would continue to be valued.
“You are part of the system and will never be left alone. The Police Force will never forget your service,” Disu assured.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, DCP Dayo Akinbisehin, described the retirees as exceptional men and women who dedicated decades of their lives to protecting lives and property.

Akinbisehin said their careers were characterised by courage, sacrifice and commitment, noting that they worked through difficult weather conditions, night shifts, public holidays and other periods when many Nigerians were with their families.

He described the officers as a “living, breathing wall of protection,” whose contributions had left an enduring mark on policing in Lagos State.

The DCP particularly acknowledged the challenging responsibilities of investigative policing at Panti, which handles complex, sensitive and high-profile criminal cases.

He also paid tribute to the families of the retirees, describing them as “unsung heroes” who endured prolonged absences, missed celebrations and the demands of police duties alongside their loved ones.

“Today’s celebration belongs to you just as much as it belongs to them,” he said.

Akinbisehin urged the retirees to remain connected to the Police Force, assuring them that they would continue to be regarded as members of the police family.

He wished them a peaceful and fulfilling retirement, while appreciating the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, and other dignitaries and well-wishers for supporting the ceremony.
