HOSTCON youth council hail NNPC trading MD Maryam Idris on performance

The National Leadership of the Host Communities Producing Oil, Gas and Pipeline Impacted States Youth Council of Nigeria (HOSTCON Youth Council), in conjunction with its Board of Trustees, has commended the Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited, Mrs Maryam Idris, for what it described as her outstanding performance in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

The group also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Idris to head the oil trading company, saying the appointment reflected competence, experience and proven capacity. Blueprint reports

According to the youth council, Idrisu’s leadership of NNPC Trading Limited has brought greater transparency and accountability to the company’s dealings and businesses, while introducing commercial reforms aimed at strengthening and repositioning Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

Group praises Idris’s leadership

In a statement, the HOSTCON Youth Council said the management of NNPC Trading Limited under Idris had demonstrated a commitment to improving the company’s operations and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas trading activities.

The group said the changes being witnessed under her leadership showed that the company was moving towards a more transparent and commercially driven approach to its operations.

It described Idris’s performance as an indication that experienced professionals with the requisite knowledge and capacity could deliver significant reforms when given the opportunity to serve.

The council maintained that her leadership had contributed to efforts to sanitise the oil and gas trading space and strengthen the commercial viability of the sector.

Commends Tinubu over appointment

The HOSTCON Youth Council also commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Idris, arguing that the decision was based on her professional competence, experience and proven capacity.

The group said the appointment demonstrated the importance of placing qualified professionals in strategic positions within the nation’s oil and gas industry.

According to the council, the decision to entrust Idris with the leadership of NNPC Trading Limited was a step towards strengthening professionalism and efficiency in one of the country’s most important economic sectors.

It urged the Federal Government to continue to prioritise competence and experience when making appointments to strategic institutions and agencies.

Focus on transparency and commercial reforms

The youth council particularly highlighted what it described as increased transparency in the dealings of NNPC Trading Limited under Idrisu.

It said the company’s operations were increasingly reflecting the need for accountability, efficiency and sound commercial practices.

The group noted that the oil and gas industry remains critical to Nigeria’s economy and requires strong institutions capable of maximising the country’s resources while ensuring that transactions are conducted transparently.

It therefore expressed confidence that the reforms being pursued under Idrisu would contribute to strengthening the country’s oil and gas trading framework.

Host communities back performance

As an organisation representing young people from host communities across oil, gas and pipeline-impacted states, the HOSTCON Youth Council said developments in the oil and gas industry were of particular importance to its members.

The council said effective management of the sector would have a direct impact on communities located in oil-producing and pipeline-impacted areas.

It stressed that improved transparency and efficiency in the industry could create opportunities for greater economic participation, development and inclusion of host communities.

The group therefore called for continued reforms that would ensure that the benefits of Nigeria’s oil and gas resources extend beyond the commercial interests of operators to the communities where the resources are produced.

Calls for sustained reforms

The council urged the management of NNPC Trading Limited to sustain the momentum of reforms and continue strengthening the company’s commercial operations.

It also encouraged the organisation to maintain transparency and accountability in its dealings while ensuring that Nigeria’s interests remain central to its activities.

The youth council said it was particularly encouraged by what it described as the emerging signs of improved leadership and commercial orientation under Idrisu.

It maintained that the country’s oil and gas sector could contribute significantly more to national development if institutions operating within the industry were managed by competent professionals with the requisite experience and integrity.

The commendation from HOSTCON Youth Council comes amid broader efforts by the Federal Government to reform Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and attract greater efficiency and transparency into the sector.

The group said it would continue to monitor developments in the industry and support initiatives capable of promoting the interests of host communities and the Nigerian economy.
