Gas, Growth, Governance: Axxela Adds 39km Pipeline, Hits Top 5% Globally In 2025 Sustainability Report

Axxela Limited is doubling down on cleaner energy and safer operations. The leading gas and power company in sub-Saharan Africa has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, and the numbers tell a story of expansion, responsibility, and global recognition.

Themed _“Enabling Access, Deepening Impact”_, the ninth consecutive report obtained by NOP NIGERIA provides a full account of Axxela’s environmental, social and governance performance. It was prepared in line with the core requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative, GRI, Standards.

On infrastructure, Axxela recorded significant growth. The company expanded its gas pipeline network by 39km in 2025, boosting connectivity across three key industrial hubs: Lagos, Ogun and Rivers states. More pipelines mean more industries can switch from diesel to gas.

NOP NIGERIA reports that that expansion also translated into business growth. Axxela strengthened its customer portfolio by connecting new industrial and commercial customers to its network. Each new connection, the company says, supports cleaner and more efficient energy use for businesses.

Safety was another big win. Axxela recorded zero fatalities across all operations in 2025 and achieved 9.6 million Lost Time Injury, LTI, free man-hours. In a high-risk sector like gas, that milestone underscores strict operational discipline.

The company’s workplace culture also got international validation. Axxela earned Great Place to Work certification during the year, and clinched a Gold Medal rating in the EcoVadis Sustainability Assessment. That rating places Axxela among the top 5% of companies assessed globally.

Speaking on the results, Moshood Olajide, Group Chief Executive Officer of Axxela, linked the performance to the company’s long-term strategy. “Expanding domestic gas utilisation remains central to our strategy,” he said. “Each new customer connection supports cleaner and more efficient energy use, helping industries improve efficiency and reduce reliance on traditionally dirtier fuels.”

Olajide added that growth will remain responsible. “Our growth remains anchored in responsible infrastructure development and long-term value creation. We will continue to support Nigeria’s transition towards a more sustainable gas-powered economy.”

On the environment, Axxela detailed concrete actions: environmental monitoring, operational controls, and rehabilitation programmes to minimise disturbance and protect biodiversity. The company also maintained environmental compliance registers, conducted annual audits and risk assessments, and ran quarterly emerging risk scans across all projects.

With nine years of transparent reporting behind it, Axxela says the 2025 report reflects a steadfast commitment to disclosure and responsible business. For investors, customers, and regulators, the message is clear: Axxela is building more than pipelines. It is building a gas-powered, sustainable future for Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.
