FCT Police Engage Kidnappers in Gunfight, Rescue Four Victims
Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have rescued four kidnapped victims following a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers in the Mpape area of Abuja.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the command received a distress call on July 8, 2026, reporting that armed kidnappers had invaded the Yellow House area in Mpape at about 10:40 pm and abducted four residents.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, immediately deployed operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, personnel from Katampe and Mpape Police Divisions, and the 24 Police Mobile Force Squadron to the scene.
Preliminary findings revealed that the assailants had shot two victims before fleeing with the hostages.
The two injured victims were rushed to a hospital, where one, identified only as Mr Babangida, later succumbed to his injuries. The second victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, is responding to treatment.
Police teams pursued the kidnappers through Jikoko Hills towards Ushafa Forest. On July 10, at about 12:05 am, the operatives located the suspects with the hostages.
The kidnappers opened fire, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire. The police overwhelmed the assailants, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into the hills and forest.
All four kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families. Operations to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
