Ex-Kwara commissioner rallies women support for APC ahead 2027

A former Commissioner for Women Affairs in Kwara state, Hon. Mopelola Abdulmalik-Bashir, has expressed confidence in the ability of women in the state to vote massively for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Abdulmalik-Bashir, who is also a gender-inclusive advocate, exuded confidence that the party’s governorship candidate, Salihu Yakubu Danladi (SYD), would amass his largest bloc of votes from Ilorin.

Mopelola made the declaration at the Kwara Central Women Support for SYD rally held in Ilorin on Friday.

She described Danladi’s emergence as a “historic demonstration of political inclusion and a continuation of the political understanding that produced the Otoge movement.”

“Otoge was never about one person or one part of Kwara. It was about changing a political order.

“If the political order has changed, then every part of Kwara must be able to aspire to lead,” she said

According to her, the 2027 election presents an opportunity to consolidate the gains of Otoge by strengthening inclusion, trust and political cooperation across the state.

“Kwara North stood with Otoge. They worked for it, sacrificed for it and voted for it. Today, that commitment is being recognized by giving Kwara North the opportunity to lead. That is inclusion in practical terms.”

Mopelola said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had demonstrated political courage by supporting an arrangement that gives Kwara-north a credible opportunity to produce the next governor of the state.

Mopelola emphasised that, “Danladi’s largest votes will come from Ilorin. Ilorin understands what inclusion means. Ilorin will stand with Kwara North, just as Kwara North stood with the broader Otoge project.”
