The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, has led a special royal horse-riding procession in Kano to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), in what has been described as the first of its kind in the history of the Kano Emirate.

The historic procession took place,  Saturday evening at about 4:45 p.m., attracting thousands of Muslim faithful who lined the major streets of the ancient city to witness the colourful royal display.

The emir appeared in a royal red robe and matching red turban decorated with black features. He rode a specially decorated horse adorned with silver-coloured ornaments and blue accessories.

He also carried the traditional Dabo sword in his right hand as he was accompanied by senior members of the Kano Emirate Council, including the Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Mannir Sanusi, and the Wazirin Kano, Alhaji Sa’adu Shehu Gidado.

Other members of the royal entourage included palace officials, traditional title holders, Shamaki, Dan Rimi, and horse riders from different parts of Kano state and beyond.

The emir emerged through Kofar Kwaru amid excitement and jubilation, a scene that reflected the enthusiasm and deep love expressed by residents for the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The procession moved through Mandawari Road towards Galadanchi, then proceeded to Kofar Diso and the area around Bayero University Teaching Hospital before eventually reaching the Emir’s palace through Kofar Kudu.

Thousands of residents gathered along the route to witness the historic event, which marked a new chapter in the history of the Kano Emirate’s Maulud celebrations.
