The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening efforts to combat visa fraud in the country.

The commitment was made on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Migration Programme Manager of the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria, Marie-Claire Lemay, to the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Assistant Commander of the EFCC Bawa Usman Kaltungo.

Kaltungo received Lemay during the visit and acknowledged the growing interest among Nigerians in travelling to Canada.

The engagement focused on the need for stronger collaboration between the two institutions in addressing visa-related fraud and protecting prospective travellers from fraudulent migration practices.

Visa fraud has become a concern for prospective migrants and immigration authorities, with fraudulent agents and intermediaries sometimes exploiting people seeking to travel abroad by offering false promises of visas, employment or other immigration opportunities.

The two institutions are expected to sustain collaboration aimed at improving public awareness and strengthening measures against fraudulent activities associated with visa applications and migration.

The EFCC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and use official channels when seeking information or assistance concerning visa applications and other travel-related processes.
