Edo Obidient leaders oppose state coordinator, declares vote of no confidence

The Edo state chapter of the Obi-dient Movement has passed a vote of no confidence in its State Coordinator, Comrade Asemota Igiogbe, after a resolution by members of the State Executive Committee and other stakeholders.

In a statement on Monday jointly signed by the executive members and stakeholders, the group accused Igiogbe of administrative lapses, abuse of office, autocratic leadership, and actions they claimed had undermined the unity, growth, and overall progress of the movement in the state.

The signatories further alleged that the State Coordinator had prioritized his personal political ambitions over the movement’s vision, objectives, and collective interests.

According to the statement, Igiogbe has, since assuming office, failed to convene the mandatory executive meetings or provide regular reports on the activities and progress of the movement, contrary to the expectations and provisions guiding the executive committee.

The group also alleged that major decisions, including initiatives aimed at strengthening the movement’s grassroots structures across Edo state, were taken unilaterally without consultation with members of SEC.

The statement further accused Igiogbe of holding meetings with political actors without the knowledge or approval of the executive and allegedly presenting individuals who were not duly recognized members of the executive as representatives of the movement during such engagements.

According to the stakeholders, the coordinator’s leadership style had created divisions within the movement through alleged factionalism and ethnic bias, while they also expressed concern over what they described as his pursuit of partisan political interests despite the movement’s non-partisan character.

The executive further alleged that Igiogbe is the subject of an ongoing police investigation over allegations including forgery and impersonation.

They also claimed that he was pursuing a political ambition as a purported candidate for a seat in the Edo State House of Assembly, a development they said constituted a conflict of interest with his position as state coordinator.

The aggrieved members recalled that many of the concerns were discussed during a meeting between the South-South Zonal Coordinator and members of the State Executive on January 17, 2026, where they said Igiogbe was advised to address the issues and avoid actions capable of damaging the image of the movement.

They, however, alleged that the concerns persisted despite the intervention.

Consequently, the executives announced that they had unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on the state coordinator, stating that the decision was made to safeguard the integrity, unity, and core objectives of the Obidient Movement in Edo state.

Reacting to the development, Comrade Asemota dismissed the allegations, arguing that those who purportedly passed the vote of no confidence were not legitimate members of the movement.
