The Ebonyi state Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of the late Amos Ubochi, whose lifeless body was discovered along a bush path in the state.
Channels TV reportsthat the 70-year-old man was found dead shortly after he endorsed an opposition candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The police command, in a statement Wednesday by its spokesman, Joshua Ukandu, said Mr Ubochi left his residence on Monday and has not returned.
Ukandu, a superintendent of police, said the command received information on Tuesday that the deceased’s body had been discovered along a bush path within the community.
The spokesman said upon receiving the report, police operatives visited the scene and evacuated the body to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead.
“The command assures members of the public that every necessary step will be taken to get to the root of the incident,” he said.
The Channels TV report said local sources stated that on Monday, 17 August, the septuagenarian had led a council of community elders in a prayer session and public endorsement of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates within the local government area.
He went missing shortly after the event while returning home, the television station reported. (NAN)
