Drama as TUC rejects FG's N70,000 allowance, calls for N300,000 wage
The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has rejected the N70,000 allowance provided by the Federal Government and demanded a N300,000 wage.
This is contained in an announcement by the President of the TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, and the Secretary-General of the union, Comrade N. A. Toro, on Wednesday.
This was in response to the brand new allowance bundle of the Federal Government for employees.
The union stated that the N70,000 allowance is just not sensible and can’t maintain the current financial hardship being confronted by Nigerian employees.
It added that with the rising value of dwelling, excessive inflation and the removing of gas subsidy, N70,000 is grossly insufficient.
The TUC, due to this fact, demanded N300,000 as a extra sensible wage that may cushion the consequences of the financial hardship on employees.
It, due to this fact, issued a stern warning that it will not settle for something lower than N300,000, saying Nigerian employees deserve a greater deal.
The TUC stated that the federal government’s failure to maintain its guarantees has weakened confidence in agreements reached between labour unions and authorities.
“TUC then calls on governments at all levels to implement measurable interventions to reduce the cost of essential goods and services, ensure timely payment of salaries and pensions, protect existing jobs, curb exploitative labour practices and revitalize the productive sector to create decent employment,” it said.
The Federal Government has not reacted to the union’s demand as of the time of filing this report.
