A woman and her alleged boyfriend have been arrested in Gujarat, India, accused of murdering her husband and secretly burying his remains at a factory site — nearly two years after he disappeared.

Jamnagar police allege the victim’s wife told family members he had relocated to Australia for work, maintaining the deception for close to two years before the truth finally unraveled.

The case cracked open when a relative planning a trip to Australia requested the missing man’s address and phone number, and the wife was unable to provide a satisfactory response. The alleged victim has been identified as Jignesh Mavadiya.

His brother, Ashok Mavadiya, subsequently filed a missing persons report at Panch ‘B’ Police Station, raising concerns that he may have been kidnapped or killed.

Family members had been told Jignesh had settled in Australia, but when questions about his location went unanswered, suspicions mounted and relatives contacted authorities.

His wife, identified locally as Pruthvi, was taken in for questioning and allegedly confessed to her involvement in her husband’s death during the interview.

According to police, preliminary investigations suggest Pruthvi had been romantically involved with a man named Nilesh prior to her marriage to Jignesh, and that the relationship allegedly continued after the wedding.

Investigators claim the pair conspired to kill Jignesh by lacing his drink with cyanide, which proved fatal after he consumed it.

According to authorities, the suspect allegedly concealed the body in a pit exceeding 12 feet in depth within a factory located in the Dared GIDC industrial estate, in an attempt to hide the crime.

Following the purported confession, forensic specialists and law enforcement officials commenced excavation at the location.

Human remains were discovered in the pit and have been submitted for forensic examination to verify the victim’s identity.
