Denver Nightclub Shooting: 9 Shot, 1 Dead After Gunfire Erupts At Ultra Lounge East

A shooting outside Ultra Lounge East in southeast Denver left one person dead and eight others injured after gunfire erupted during an after-party.

One person was killed and eight others were injured after gunfire broke out outside Ultra Lounge East in southeast Denver shortly after midnight on Monday, police said.

According to Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas, the shooting occurred on the nightclub’s outdoor patio and in the parking lot at 9755 E. Hampden Ave. Officers responding to a disturbance arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity will be released by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

Eight other people were shot and transported to hospitals, either by paramedics or on their own. Police said their injuries were initially described as non-life-threatening, while Thomas later said all eight were in serious but stable condition.

Investigators believe at least two firearms were used in the shooting, though no weapons were recovered from the scene.

Police said the violence stemmed from a confrontation between two groups at an event in neighboring Aurora on Sunday afternoon. The dispute continued into an after-party at Ultra Lounge East, where shots were fired shortly before 12:10 a.m.

Authorities are working to identify suspects using witness descriptions. It remains unclear whether everyone injured was involved in the earlier confrontation or whether some victims were bystanders.

Thomas said the nightclub was unusually crowded for a Sunday evening and noted concerns about the easy access to firearms, saying too many people lack the skills to resolve conflicts without violence.

The shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents along East Hampden Avenue, where police have increased patrols following multiple shootings and homicides reported this year.
