Davido: Edo government speaks on singer’s entry ban

The Edo state government has denied reports that it banned music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, from entering the state, describing the purported ban as the “handiwork of an impostor and fraud.”

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, in a statement released Friday, said the state government dissociated itself from what he described as “spiteful behaviour,” stressing that Edo remained a “home to all, irrespective of their beliefs, political affiliations or persuasions.”

Afegbua said the government would even be willing to collaborate with Davido if the singer chose to perform in the state in the future.

“Our enemies are at it again; we did not ban Davido from entering Edo state. The proclaimer of that ban is an enemy of Edo state; an impostor and a fraud,” he said.

According to him, Governor Monday Okpebholo maintains a balanced relationship with people across different demographic and political divides in the State.

He described Davido as “one of our illustrious sons,” noting that the singer’s mother hails from Edo state.

“Should he wish to visit Edo state, we would happily host and fete him,” he said.

Afegbua explained that whatever disagreement might have arisen between political actors in Osun state following last week’s governorship election was strictly political and should not be interpreted as a personal dispute.

“There was nothing personal in the conversations that deepened the campaigns,” he added.

The commissioner also commended Davido for his contributions to the Nigerian music industry and his role in projecting the country globally.
